Intermediate Guitar Repertoire #1

3 Songs (see below) explored in 4 sessions per block:

IN PERSON INSTRUCTION (if permitted by Health Dept):

- Instructional YouTube videos (2-4 per song)

- 4 x 1 hr weekly sessions (recorded, for your review)

- Exercise PDFs used in sessions

Intermediate-Level repertoire: development of grooves/strumming; Carter-style bass (moving bass line & chords); melodic strumming/picking variations.

3 songs: Yellow Submarine, Country Roads, Stand By Me

(Teachers, music therapists or community musicians taking the workshop be shown additional techniques applicable to their needs.)

A capo is required .

WORKSHOP COST: $60 (inc. HST), $100 (total) for additional participants in the same household. Includes all materials presented in sessions.

For Adults with prior guitar experience who want to add variations and nuances to their playing. in a small group setting (6 people maximum).

Pt 1 Topics: barre chords, chord variations, ornamental passing notes, strumming & fingerpicking techniques & patterns, intro to Carter Style (playing melody & chords together), percussive techniques, intro to open E chords, creating grooves and patterns linked to particular repertoire in a variety of popular styles.

Pt 2 Topics: (available to registrants who have taken Pt 1) Expands upon Pt 1 topics. New Topics: Rock and R&B grooves, Blues Patterns in E+ and A+, creating advanced grooves and patterns for improvisation.

(Special advice/tips will be shared with any teachers, music therapists or community musicians taking the workshop.)

Guitar Basics Workshop

(age 16+)

IN PERSON INSTRUCTION (if permitted by Health Dept)

No prior experience required.

For adults who would like to learn to play the guitar in a small group setting (8 people maximum).

In addition to learning simple singable popular songs in a variety of styles (3-6 chords), participants will get the opportunity to request their favourite songs or artists. We will explore using capos, and creating grooves and patterns suitable for improvisation.

A capo is required. Recommended brand: Kyser.

This particular brand applies pressure evenly to all strings (maintaining proper intonation), and is the easiest to position and change quickly with one hand. It also clips easily to the headstock when not in use, for easy retrieval.
